PRK/LASEK stands for Laser Epithelialkeratomileusis. The PRK treatment is like the LASIK treatment, just a very short procedure.

Beforehand you´ll be administered drops to numb the eyes for a pain free treatment.

The treatment starts with removal of the top layer of the cornea – the epithelium and then reshaping of the cornea with the laser to correct the refractive error.

A bandage contact lens is placed and the epithelium is then allowed to regenerate.

The LASEK/PRK is used for the correction of vision defects (nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism) the LASEK/PRK is the most refractive procedure that is used in the ophthalmology field and has a high number of performed operations. It´s the oldest laser procedure and has been successfully used since 1987. Other techniques have been developed in recent years, they have a slightly longer treatment time and their accuracy and precision is identical to LASIK and LASEK. Also there´s no additional benefits compared to LASIK or PRK/LASEK.

Apart from the high number of operated patients, LASIK has proven the effectiveness as a treatment method, in which the refractive error of the patient can be corrected, very accurately and successfully. Thanks to LASIK, myopic patients who have diopter between -1 and -8 can be corrected. With Hyperopia the correction span is up to +3 diopter, in astigmatism up to 6 diopter. The group of patients being treated with LASEK/PRK is thanks to the progressive technological possibilities, increasingly larger.

Unlike other treatments LASEK/PRK offers the possibility of surgery for those whom have thin cornea with a small refractive error.

All Care Vision sites in Germany are equipped with an Excimer laser system ALLEGRETTO WAVE of Erlangen Wave light company. The ALLEGRETTO WAVE was chosen due to its excellent results for the most popular laser system in recent years. It was also the first European laser system approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US.

Due to the excellent results is the Excimer laser system, the most prestigious of laser systems in recent years. With a working speed of 200 Hz or 400 Hz and the “Perfect Pulse Technology” (intelligent control of laser pulses), the Allegretto Wave is additionally equipped with “the Eye tracker”, a very swift tracking system. Even with the random movements of the eye; the Excimer laser will center on its goal so the laser ablation is only performed within the specified range. To keep the total ablation area as minimal as possible, the laser (with a beam of only 0.95 mm) works at highest accuracy. Through an interaction with the wave front – optimized ablation, large optical zones and best possible transition zones are being created, which ensure good vision quality after the treatment even in adverse lightning conditions.

For all 3 types of vision deficiencies (Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism), depending of the structure of the eye, is the LASEK method the most common one.
