Burak Mergen

Burak Mergen began his training as an ophthalmology specialist at Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine, where he was a junior doctor until 2020. Then he worked as a senior physician at the Eye Clinic of Basaksehir Cam and Sakura City Hospital in Istanbul until November 2022.

In addition to his scientific career, Mergen began surgical activities early in his career. After the international board examinations, he acquired the titles FEBO (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology) and FICO (Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology). He has worked extensively in refractive surgery and has performed numerous procedures such as LASIK, PRK and cataract surgery. From January 2023 to August 2024, he worked at the Sine-Höft ophthalmology practice in Gengenbach.

As part of his scientific work, Mergen conducted intensive research at renowned institutions in the USA and Germany, such as Harvard University, University of Minnesota, Tufts University and Saarland University.

Burak Mergen received his license to practice medicine in Germany in December 2023 and completed his specialist certification in July 2024. He has received several awards for his scientific achievements, including Associate Professor of Ophthalmology in March 2024 and “Innovative Surgeon of the Year” in Turkey in 2023. He is also a member of several important international professional societies and has authored and presented over 40 publications and book chapters as well as numerous lectures and courses.
