Career
After completing his medical studies in Jordan, Dr. Hamzeh Tamimi specialised early in surgical ophthalmology. From 2012 to 2015, he completed his surgical specialist training at the Royal Medical Services in Amman, where he gained extensive experience in cataract, retinal, and corneal surgery. From 2015 onwards, Dr. Tamimi worked at St. Johannes Hospital in Dortmund. There, he obtained his specialist qualification in ophthalmology and further developed his surgical expertise under the direction of Prof. Dr. Markus Kohlhaas. From January 2022 to March 2024, he served as a senior physician in the Department of Ophthalmology, where he was responsible for a broad range of surgical procedures. Dr. Tamimi focused his scientific work on keratoconus. He earned his doctorate at the University of Duisburg-Essen with a dissertation on the long-term stability and functional outcomes following riboflavin-UVA corneal collagen cross-linking in children and adolescents with progressive keratoconus. Dr. Tamimi has particular expertise in cataract treatment, including the implantation of premium intraocular lenses, as well as retinal and corneal surgery, glaucoma surgery, and eyelid surgery. In addition, he treats patients with keratoconus and has extensive experience in modern surgical and conservative treatment methods in ophthalmology.
