Career

Mohamed Ghaly studied human medicine at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, from 2001 to 2008. He completed his specialist training in ophthalmology in 2012 at the Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and in 2018 at the Rothenbaum Eye Clinic in Hamburg, Germany. In 2012, he passed the ophthalmology examinations of the Membership of Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (MRSCEd). In 2018, he passed the European specialist examination in Paris and has been a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) since then.

The focus of his clinical work is the treatment of diseases of the anterior segment of the eye, in particular the cornea. He specializes in the various methods of corneal transplantation, combined with lens surgery, performed on an outpatient basis (lamellar: DMEK, UT-DSAEK, BLT, DALK, and perforating). He also specializes in individualized therapeutic laser procedures of the cornea. From 2020 to 2022, he was head of corneal surgery at the AOB eye clinics in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.

Mohamed Ghaly completed the corneal transplantation fellowship at the renowned Netherlands Institute for Innovative Ocular Surgery (NIIOS) in Rotterdam.
In collaboration with colleagues from the Cornea Bank, Melles Cornea Clinic and R&D group at the excellence Cornea Institute, NIIOS-Rotterdam, he led courses and wetlabs for innovative methods of corneal transplantation (DMEK and BLT) in 2022.

The main focus of his clinical research is on individualized corneal transplantation and laser therapy. He is also working on digital strategies in ophthalmology and AI as part of his doctorate at the University of Cologne. He is involved in voluntary surgical work to improve visual acuity in Africa.

In refractive surgery, he completed his profound refractive surgery training with Priv. Doz. Toam Katz MD. He deepened his experience through various stays abroad, most recently at the renowned London Vision Clinic. With over 1000 refractive procedures under his belt, he has been working at Care Vision since 2021 and performs refractive laser and lens treatments.
