Career

Univ. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Klemen started his training as specialist in ophthalmology and optometry as the I. University Eye clinic Vienna, where her worked as an assistant and senior physician, stationed till 1985. After that he held senior positions in the Department of Ophthalmology at the St. Pölten Hospital and at the Eye clinic of the Radebeul Hospital near Dresden.

In addition to his academic career he began his surgical activities in 1973. In 1984 he worked, according to a study in Philadelphia (USA), for the first time with the refractive surgery of the eye, initially with the then current radial keratectomy and from 2001 with the Excimer laser surgery of the cornea (after the LASIK and LASEK method). Univ. Prof. Dr. Klemen also worked as a surgeon of the eye lens and could help more than 22.000 patients to a “vision without glasses” – with multifocal lens implantations for near-and farsightedness.
His scientific achievements were both awarded him with the title “Univ. Prof” honoring him as President of the Society of Ophthalmologist Vienna and as Vice President of the German Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Univ. Prof. Dr. Klemen is a member of all major international professional associations, has more than 220 publications and book chapters written and over 350 presentations, courses and video demonstrations prepared and held by him.
