What does LASIK mean?

LASIK is the most commonly used eye laser method worldwide. The abbreviation stands for laser in situ keratomileusis. With extensive long-term experience and excellent treatment results, LASIK is the most popular correction procedure for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

A LASIK treatment only takes about 10 minutes per eye (the use of the laser only takes a few seconds) and is carried out on an outpatient basis at one of the CARE Vision locations. Shortly after the LASIK treatment, most of our patients can see well and can go about their usual everyday life again after a day or two – of course without glasses and contact lenses.

The treatment – This is how the LASIK surgery works

Anesthesia

First, the eyes are prepared for the LASIK operation with numbing drops. Most patients only feel a slight pressure during the treatment.

Preparation

The ophthalmologist prepares a small lamella in the top layer of the cornea. This so-called flap is folded to the side and the actual laser treatment can begin.

Laser treatment

Now the Excimer laser starts the customized correction of the ametropia by modeling the cornea. This happens in a few seconds.

Healing

After the treatment, the flap is folded back into its original position as the body’s own plaster. It will grow back in no time.

The first milestone on your way to life without glasses is the detailed preliminary medical examination. During this we take a close look at your eyes and your individual ametropia and determine the most suitable treatment method for you.

Step 1. Initial information and aptitude test for LASIK

During a non-binding information session, you will learn how LASIK and other treatment methods make it possible to say goodbye to glasses and contact lenses. You have the choice between a free video consultation from the comfort of your own home or a personal appointment at one of our locations with one of our optometrists. On request, we can carry out an initial suitability test of your eyes for laser correction on site.

Step 2. Preliminary medical examination

The comprehensive preliminary medical examination is crucial for choosing the most suitable treatment method for you. We measure every millimeter of your eyes precisely and thus lay the foundation for optimal treatment results. 

At this appointment, you have the opportunity to ask your treating doctor questions.

Tip: You can save time by combining both steps

If you wish, you can combine both dates. After an initial aptitude test and a detailed consultation, we immediately carry out the preliminary medical examination. Many patients choose this option in order to save time for travel and appointments. Please plan about 2.5 hours for the entire examination.

Ich habe mich bei Care Vision für eine Augenlaser-OP entschieden und bin mit meiner Erfahrung rundum zufrieden. Das gesamte Personal war von Anfang an sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Super nettes und kompetentes Personal vor Ort. Ich habe am ersten Tag meine Voruntersuchung gehabt und am nächsten Tag wurde direkt gelasert. Ich hatte grossen Respekt und Angst vor dem Eingriff und war sehr aufgeregt. Alle haben sich blendend um einen gekümmert und alle Ängste waren unbegründet. Der Eingriff war komplett schmerzfrei und auch überhaupt nicht unangenehm. Ja es wird etwas am Auge gemacht und obwohl der Eingriff nur insgesamt vielleicht 10 bis 20 Minuten dauert für beide Augen, kommt es einem vor wie eine Ewigkeit. Nach dem Eingriff konnte ich direkt ziemlich gut schon sehen, etwas verschwommen aber ich hatte gar keine Schmerzen oder sonstiges. Das einzige was passiert ist, das die Augen voller Tränen wurden, was sich aber gut angefühlt hat, weil es wahrscheinlich Teil des Heilungsprozesses war. Ich bin nach dem Eingriff direkt etwas essen gegangen und musste ab und zu kurz mal anhalten, Tränen wegwischen und kurz innehalten. Etwas lichtempfindlich aber auch überhaupt nicht unangenehm. Es waren keine Schmerzen. Am selben Tag nach der Nachuntersuchung war schon als ob nichts gewesen wäre. Ich hatte die Lasik Methode. Das sind meine ehrlichen Erfahrungen und möchte mich nochmals herzlichst beim behandelnden Arzt Dr. Sukiyasan und allen Mitarbeitern bedanken. Ganz ganz klare Empfehlung. 🫶

Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit der Arbeit vom Care Vision Team aus Frankfurt, ich wurde hier im September 26 gelasert und bin mit den Ergebnis bisher sehr froh. Ich wurde letztes Jahr an meinen Augen gelasert und bin unglaublich zufrieden. Zunächst war ich mir extrem unsicher und hatte Bedenken wegen möglicher Komplikationen. Nach dem Gespräch mit Frau Laura Enkirch war jedoch klar, dass ich mir meine Augen auf jeden Fall bei Care Vision lasern lassen würde. Ich habe mir vor ein paar Tagen die Augen lasern lassen und es war die beste Entscheidung! Von Anfang an habe ich mich bei Care Vision in Düsseldorf wohl gefühlt. Sehr nettes, zuvorkommendes und sensibles Personal. Es ist unglaublich wie schnell das alles geht. Ich kann nun besser sehen als vorher mit Brille oder Kontaktlinsen. Jedem, der nur ansatzweise überlegt sich die Augen lasern zu lassen kann ich nur sagen, dass das ein unglaubliches Gefühl ist und man wirklich keine Angst davor haben muss. Von der Beratung über die Behandlung bis hin zur Nachsorge bin ich rundum zufrieden! Bei der Voruntersuchung wurde festgestellt, dass meine tatsächliche Sehstärke von meiner bisherigen Brillenstärke abwich. Umso größer war die Freude, als ich nach der Behandlung sogar besser sehen konnte als zuvor mit Brille. Ich wurde in Frankfurt von Mohamad Bdoura behandelt, der mir von Anfang an sehr kompetent, seriös und freundlich begegnet ist. Die Behandlung selbst dauerte nur wenige Minuten und bereits am selben Abend konnte ich eine deutliche Verbesserung meiner Sehstärke feststellen. Am nächsten Morgen kam dann der absolute Wow-Effekt: Ich konnte bereits ohne Brille Auto fahren! Man hatte wirklich das Gefühl, dass alles sehr gut organisiert und durchdacht war. Die Tests am Anfang wurden gut getacktet, die Mitarbeiter waren sehr nett und auch an den OP Terminen verlief alles reibungslos. Gestern Abend war es endlich soweit und ich habe meine Augen bei Herrn Dr. Wölfel lasern lassen. Ich muss wirklich sagen, dass ich mich von Anfang an super aufgehoben gefühlt habe. Schon bei der Vorbesprechung wurde alles ganz in Ruhe erklärt und man konnte jederzeit Fragen stellen. Dadurch hatte ich direkt ein gutes Gefühl und habe mich wirklich sicher gefühlt. Auch während der OP wurde immer gesagt und erklärt, was gerade gemacht wird. Das ganze Personal war total lieb, aufmerksam und fürsorglich und hat sich wirklich Mühe gegeben, dass man sich wohlfühlt. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ich kann Care Vision in Hamburg wirklich von Herzen weiterempfehlen! Schon bei der ersten Untersuchung in der ABC-Straße wurde sich viel Zeit genommen, meine Augen genau zu kontrollieren und zu prüfen, ob eine Laserbehandlung überhaupt für mich infrage kommt. Alles wurde verständlich erklärt und ich habe mich von Anfang an sehr gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Die eigentliche Behandlung fand anschließend in Eppendorf im UKE statt. Mein behandelnder Arzt war DR. AMR M. OTHMAN. Auch dort war das gesamte Team sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und professionell. Man bekommt das Gefühl, dass wirklich auf einen geachtet wird und man nicht einfach nur „durchgeschleust“ wird. Die Operation selbst ging erstaunlich schnell und alles wurde vorher und währenddessen sehr gut erklärt. Besonders positiv fand ich auch die Nachsorge. Noch am selben Tag hatte ich eine Nachkontrolle und bereits einen weiteren Kontrolltermin bekommen. Dadurch hatte ich jederzeit das Gefühl, dass meine Augen gut betreut und kontrolliert werden. Und das Ergebnis ist für mich einfach unglaublich, Ich habe aktuell eine 100%ige Sehleistung erreicht und kann Dinge sehen, die ich vorher ohne Brille nie so klar wahrgenommen habe. Dieses Gefühl ist wirklich schwer zu beschreiben, ich fühle mich wie neu geboren. 😄 Ich würde sogar sagen, Ich sehe die Welt gerade in 4K! 😂 Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team von Care Vision und besonders an DR. Good bye Brille! Danke Care Vision Frankfurt! Nach 38 Jahren mit Brille, jetzt ohne Brille durch den Alltag zu gehen, ist wunderbar! Frequently asked questions about LASIK (FAQ)

How long does vision change last after LASIK?

LASIK surgery is characterized by the particularly rapid restoration of vision after the treatment. Many patients are immediately impressed by their good vision without glasses immediately after the LASIK operation. Most patients are fully operational again the next day and can go about their normal everyday life without visual aids. Full vision recovery takes about two to three months. The exact duration varies from person to person and depends in particular on the severity of the visual defect being treated.

Which ametropia can LASIK surgery correct?

LASIK treatment can correct short-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. In the case of myopia, treatment is usually possible up to -10 diopters; with farsightedness up to approx. 4 diopters. 

When should I have my eyes lasered?

You can have your eyes lasered if you wear glasses or contact lenses and find these visual aids annoying. You should also be at least 18 years old and have stable eyesight for more than 12 months. You must not suffer from any eye disease and should be in good health.

Can I laser both eyes at the same time?

Yes, both eyes are lasered during one treatment. Because after LASIK, our patients can usually see clearly again immediately or a few hours after the treatment. Your eyes may be slightly irritated and sensitive to light on the day of treatment; the day after LASIK you can usually go back to your usual activities and work. 

How long does LASIK surgery take?

The treatment only takes about 10 minutes per eye and the laser itself only takes a few seconds. Anesthetic eye drops are administered before the treatment. As soon as the anesthesia sets in, a small cover, the so-called flap, is prepared on the surface of the cornea and folded up. Then the actual laser treatment begins. The doctor uses the laser to model the surface of the cornea in such a way that the ametropia can be compensated for. The tiny corneal flap is returned to its original position and the treatment is complete. 

Is LASIK treatment painful? Do I get anesthesia?

The treatment is painless as you will be given numbing eye drops. A few patients only feel a slight pressure or foreign body sensation. Anesthesia is not necessary. Before the treatment, we offer you a sedative tablet. We recommend patients to take this, especially if they are nervous. 

How long will it take for my eyes to recover after LASIK?

After LASIK, our patients can usually see clearly again immediately or a few hours after the procedure. You should rest on the day of the treatment, as your eyes can be easily irritated and sensitive to light. You can usually go back to your usual activities and work the day after the treatment. You should avoid strenuous sport, swimming and eye make-up for a week so that your eyes can regenerate as best as possible.

How long do you have dry eyes after LASIK surgery?

We will give you artificial tears and a drop schedule that you should follow to prevent the symptoms. The feeling of dryness should disappear after a few weeks at the latest.

How much does LASIK surgery cost?

The cost of LASIK is around €1.200 per eye (billing according to GOÄ after the treatment has been completed). You also have the option of financing the treatment with up to 12 monthly installments (0% financing).
