What does LASIK mean?

LASIK is the most commonly used eye laser method worldwide. The abbreviation stands for laser in situ keratomileusis. With extensive long-term experience and excellent treatment results, LASIK is the most popular correction procedure for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

A LASIK treatment only takes about 10 minutes per eye (the use of the laser only takes a few seconds) and is carried out on an outpatient basis at one of the CARE Vision locations. Shortly after the LASIK treatment, most of our patients can see well and can go about their usual everyday life again after a day or two – of course without glasses and contact lenses.

The treatment – This is how the LASIK surgery works

Anesthesia

First, the eyes are prepared for the LASIK operation with numbing drops. Most patients only feel a slight pressure during the treatment.

Preparation

The ophthalmologist prepares a small lamella in the top layer of the cornea. This so-called flap is folded to the side and the actual laser treatment can begin.

Laser treatment

Now the Excimer laser starts the customized correction of the ametropia by modeling the cornea. This happens in a few seconds.

Healing

After the treatment, the flap is folded back into its original position as the body’s own plaster. It will grow back in no time.

The first milestone on your way to life without glasses is the detailed preliminary medical examination. During this we take a close look at your eyes and your individual ametropia and determine the most suitable treatment method for you.

Step 1. Initial information and aptitude test for LASIK

During a non-binding information session, you will learn how LASIK and other treatment methods make it possible to say goodbye to glasses and contact lenses. You have the choice between a free video consultation from the comfort of your own home or a personal appointment at one of our locations with one of our optometrists. On request, we can carry out an initial suitability test of your eyes for laser correction on site.

Step 2. Preliminary medical examination

The comprehensive preliminary medical examination is crucial for choosing the most suitable treatment method for you. We measure every millimeter of your eyes precisely and thus lay the foundation for optimal treatment results. 

At this appointment, you have the opportunity to ask your treating doctor questions.

Tip: You can save time by combining both steps

If you wish, you can combine both dates. After an initial aptitude test and a detailed consultation, we immediately carry out the preliminary medical examination. Many patients choose this option in order to save time for travel and appointments. Please plan about 2.5 hours for the entire examination.

How safe is LASIK eye laser treatment?

Ich hatte am 27.12.24 meine OP.
Ich hatte mir 2 Wochen Ferien genommen bevor ich wieder zur Arbeit ging (Büro Job) leider hatte ich nach 3 Wochen immernoch mühe mich den ganzen Tag am Bildschirm zu konzentrieren. Mails zu lesen fiel mir schwer.
Am 30.01.25 habe ich endlich über Nacht eine deutliche Verbesserung gespürt und konnte am nächsten Tag ohne Probleme am Bildschirm arbeiten.
In den nächsten Wochen hatten sich meine Augen weiterhin verbessert. Ich konnte ab Ende Februar sogar die Feuchtigkeitstropfen aufgeben. Meine Augen verlangen nicht mehr danach. Ich verspüre kein trockenheitsgefühl und sehe scharf ohne Brille.
Für mich ist die OP somit absolut gelungen!
Tipp am Rande: Man muss Geduld haben mit der Heilung, jeder Körper heilt anderst schnell. Haltet den Augentropfen strikt ein! Die Augen heilen dann viel schneller. Keine Tropfen auslassen 🙂

Ich habe mir vor zwei Monaten bei Care Vision Hannover die Augen lasern lassen – und was soll ich sagen: Es war die beste Entscheidung meines Lebens!

Schon beim ersten Termin habe ich mich rundum wohlgefühlt. Die Atmosphäre ist angenehm, die Mitarbeiter sind unglaublich freundlich und nehmen sich Zeit für alle Fragen. Ich hatte vorher einige Sorgen und Unsicherheiten – aber mir wurde alles genau erklärt, ich wurde ernst genommen und durch jeden Schritt begleitet. Man fühlt sich dort einfach gut aufgehoben.

Die OP selbst lief total schnell ab, und das Team hat sich auch währenddessen ständig um mich gekümmert, was unglaublich beruhigend war. Nachdem die Betäubung nachgelassen hat, hatte ich einige Stunden Schmerzen, aber wenn man sich konsequent an den Tropfplan hält, ist das am nächsten Tag schon viel besser.

Besonders praktisch fand ich auch die Nachkontrolle nur ein paar Stunden nach der OP. Für alle, die von weiter her anreisen: Kleiner Tipp – die Bäckerei direkt unter der Praxis ist ideal, um die Zeit bis dahin angenehm zu überbrücken.

Was einem vorher natürlich bewusst ist: Man wird nach der OP dauerhaft auf befeuchtende Augentropfen angewiesen sein. Aber für mich persönlich ist das absolut in Ordnung, lieber Augentropfen als weiterhin eine Brille oder Kontaktlinsen tragen zu müssen!
Also.. Mein Fazit nach zwei Monaten: Ich sehe endlich ohne Sehhilfe – mein Leben hat sich dadurch so positiv verändert. Auch wenn ich jetzt auf Augentropfen angewiesen bin, bereue ich keine Sekunde. Ich bin einfach nur glücklich und dankbar, jeden Tag aufs Neue. Es fühlt sich an wie ein völlig neues Lebensgefühl!

Was ich auch noch loswerden möchte: In einigen Bewertungen liest man von “Massenabfertigung” oder “Fließbandarbeit”. Aber man muss einfach realistisch sehen, wie viele Patienten Care Vision am Tag betreut. Trotzdem bekommt man sehr schnell Termine und hat vor Ort kaum Wartezeiten. Wenn für jedes Gespräch eine Stunde eingeplant würde, müssten wir Monate auf Termine warten und stundenlang vor Ort verbringen. So wie es läuft, ist es gut organisiert und effizient.

Ich kann Care Vision Hannover wirklich jedem empfehlen. Danke an das ganze Team – ihr seid großartig!

Ich hatte vor 12 Jahren bei Care Vision meine LASIK Behandlung und kann rückblickend sagen, dass das eine der besten Entscheidungen in meinem Leben war! Ich kann mich nicht erinnern, ob ich damals eine Rezension abgegeben habe. Aber heute tue ich es und meine - damals wie heute - extrem freundliches, kompetentes Personal vom Empfang bis zum Arzt/Ärztin. Die Betreuung inklusive Nachbehandlung damals war top! Meine Linsen-OP ist nun ein Jahr her und freue mich seither ohne Brille zu leben. Ich arbeite am Computer genauso entspannt wie ich Motorrad und Ski fahre.

Eine wiedergewonnenen Lebensqualität nach dem Linsentausch bei Care Vision. Die gesamte Operation lief unglaublich Problemlos und Hand in Hand ab. Hier weiss jeder was er zu tun hat, es wird immer auf den Patienten geachtet.
Operiert wird an 2 Tagen (rechtes & linkes Auge) am 3. Tag findet eine Nachkontrolle statt bei der ich meine gewünschten 100% Sehkraft hatte. Nachdem meine Sehkraft sich auf Grund einer angeborenen Graue-Star-Erkrankung binnen kürzester Zeit erheblich verschlechtert hatte, habe ich einen persönlichen Beratungstermin in Mainz vereinbart. Der erste Eindruck war durchaus positiv, das gesamte Team ist wirklich super freundlich und sehr zuvorkommend. Mein Arzt, Mohamad Bdoura, hat mich super kompetent mit sehr viel Einfühlungsvermögen beraten, sich lange Zeit genommen und alle meine Fragen ausführlich beantwortet. Ich fühlte mich bestens informiert und habe direkt vor Ort den Termin zum Linsentausch vereinbart. Die Tatsache, dass Herr Bdoura mich selbst in Frankfurt operieren würde, beruhigte mich außerordentlich, da ich mich bei ihm bestens aufgehoben fühlte.
Die OP verlief völlig schmerzfrei und komplikationslos, bereits am Abend nach der OP konnte ich wieder alles lesen, was vorher ohne Lesebrille nicht möglich war.
Auch die Nachsorge in Frankfurt war top!

Ich habe vom ersten Beratungstermin bis zum Augenlaser nicht einen Monat gewartet bis zur Behandlung auch danach die Kontrolltermine sehr kompetent und freundlich. Nach einem Viertel Jahrhundert Brille tragen wurde ich durch Freunde auf Care Vision aufmerksam gemacht. Eine erste Beratung und Untersuchung der Augen diente dazu, überhaupt festzustellen, ob eine OP in Frage käme. Nachdem ich dafür grünes Licht bekam, folgte eine ausführliche Aufklärung über Vorgehen und Operation an sich. Die Mitarbeiter nahmen sich intensiv und lange Zeit, sodass ich gut informiert entscheiden konnte.

For patients who are busy during the week, we regularly offer our popular LASIK weekends. The comprehensive medical preliminary examination of your eyes takes place on Fridays. The eye laser treatment takes place on Saturday and the first follow-up examination on Sunday. The very next day on Monday, most of our patients can already go about their everyday lives again – without disturbing visual aids!

Frequently asked questions about LASIK (FAQ)

How long does vision change last after LASIK?

LASIK surgery is characterized by the particularly rapid restoration of vision after the treatment. Many patients are immediately impressed by their good vision without glasses immediately after the LASIK operation. Most patients are fully operational again the next day and can go about their normal everyday life without visual aids. Full vision recovery takes about two to three months. The exact duration varies from person to person and depends in particular on the severity of the visual defect being treated.

Which ametropia can LASIK surgery correct?

LASIK treatment can correct short-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. In the case of myopia, treatment is usually possible up to -10 diopters; with farsightedness up to approx. 4 diopters. 

When should I have my eyes lasered?

You can have your eyes lasered if you wear glasses or contact lenses and find these visual aids annoying. You should also be at least 18 years old and have stable eyesight for more than 12 months. You must not suffer from any eye disease and should be in good health.

Can I laser both eyes at the same time?

Yes, both eyes are lasered during one treatment. Because after LASIK, our patients can usually see clearly again immediately or a few hours after the treatment. Your eyes may be slightly irritated and sensitive to light on the day of treatment; the day after LASIK you can usually go back to your usual activities and work. 

How long does LASIK surgery take?

The treatment only takes about 10 minutes per eye and the laser itself only takes a few seconds. Anesthetic eye drops are administered before the treatment. As soon as the anesthesia sets in, a small cover, the so-called flap, is prepared on the surface of the cornea and folded up. Then the actual laser treatment begins. The doctor uses the laser to model the surface of the cornea in such a way that the ametropia can be compensated for. The tiny corneal flap is returned to its original position and the treatment is complete. 

Is LASIK treatment painful? Do I get anesthesia?

The treatment is painless as you will be given numbing eye drops. A few patients only feel a slight pressure or foreign body sensation. Anesthesia is not necessary. Before the treatment, we offer you a sedative tablet. We recommend patients to take this, especially if they are nervous. 

How long will it take for my eyes to recover after LASIK?

After LASIK, our patients can usually see clearly again immediately or a few hours after the procedure. You should rest on the day of the treatment, as your eyes can be easily irritated and sensitive to light. You can usually go back to your usual activities and work the day after the treatment. You should avoid strenuous sport, swimming and eye make-up for a week so that your eyes can regenerate as best as possible.

How long do you have dry eyes after LASIK surgery?

Nach der Behandlung können vorübAfter the treatment, you may experience a temporary sensation of dryness or a foreign body sensation (similar to a grain of sand in the eye), as well as burning or itching. We will give you artificial tears and a drop schedule that you should follow to prevent the symptoms. The feeling of dryness should disappear after a few weeks at the latest.

How much does LASIK surgery cost?

The cost of LASIK is around €1.200 per eye (billing according to GOÄ after the treatment has been completed). You also have the option of financing the treatment with up to 12 monthly installments (0% financing).
