I wore both glasses and contact lenses. I had been wearing contact lenses since I was 16. Over the years, I kept switching between glasses and contact lenses. However, because of my dry eyes, contact lenses became increasingly difficult for me. I also notice the dryness when working in air-conditioned environments. Especially during long working days or in winter, dry eyes were uncomfortable for me. My visual aids also bothered me when applying make-up and during sports. When swimming in summer, for example, I could not dive while wearing contact lenses. I used to always say, “It’s fine.” But at some point, I simply wanted more freedom.

That’s why I was curious to find out what it would feel like

I was a little nervous before the treatment. Even if you know how it works and are familiar with the process, you have never experienced it yourself. So, of course, I was curious to find out what it would actually feel like. During the first few hours after the treatment, my eyes were watering, but the eye drops made it much better, and after a few hours everything was already fine. The dryness was the most uncomfortable part for me. That is why it is important to use the eye drops consistently. The treatment itself, however, was very quick.

I didn’t want to have to think about it anymore

The great thing today is simply that I wake up and can see clearly right away. I have more freedom and no longer have to constantly worry about whether I need my glasses or contact lenses. I also have more freedom when I exercise. I don’t have to worry anymore about my contact lenses getting dry or about sweating. My personal best “glasses-free experience” is actually quite simple: this freedom. I have more time and don’t have to think so much about it when I’m putting on makeup. I just always keep in mind that I can do anything now.

I asked myself: Why did I wait so long to do this?

For me, it was the right decision. I really do wonder: Why did I wait so long to do it? I kept putting it off, and now I’m just so grateful that I decided to go through with it. To anyone thinking about it, I’d say: Just do it! Of course, it’s different for everyone, but I’d always recommend just coming in for a preliminary exam. I’m truly very grateful.
