I am originally from Cuba and have been living in Germany for many years. This country has opened many doors for me. Here, I can be who I am. I have been working at CARE Vision for two years. Helping people means a lot to me. In my free time, I enjoy dancing, having barbecues with friends, and I am generally open to anything. I like trying new things. I wore glasses for 17 years, most recently progressive lenses. I also wore contact lenses for around eight years, but only at weekends, for example, when I went dancing. My biggest problem was presbyopia. Especially when working at the computer, I noticed how many difficulties it caused.

Why wait when I can make a change today?

I decided to have the treatment because I thought: If I don’t do it now, I might develop cataracts or glaucoma later. I wanted to take care of my vision before that could happen.

In the best hands

I was treated by Raquel Socias. I wasn’t afraid of the treatment, but I had a great deal of respect for it. I trusted our doctors and our team. They have a calming presence, explain everything clearly, and the entire team prepares patients professionally for the treatment. On the day of the procedure, I was excited – positively excited. Feeling nervous is part of it. Even so, I knew I was in good hands. After just four days, I was already back at work. Two days after the operation, I could hardly sleep simply because I was so excited. Suddenly, I could see everything. Today, I can read my phone again without glasses.

Back in my element

One of the best moments was when I sat down at the computer again and could see everything clearly and sharply. With my newly treated eye, I realised that my curtains were actually white. Before, they had looked grey to me. My greatest hobby is diving. I come from Cuba, an island, and I used to dive to depths of up to 40 metres. Wearing contact lenses was difficult because of the pressure, and they would fall out. Glasses did not really work either. This year, I finally want to go diving again. I have missed it so much. I am grateful and happy.

Encouraging others through my own experience

Today, I tell many people about my experience. I support patients and understand what they need. I want them to become just as happy as I am. People can tell that I truly mean what I say. I would choose the treatment again at any time. It was the best decision of my life. Why didn’t I do this sooner?
