I honestly can’t remember what it was like to grow up without glasses. Since I was three years old, they were simply part of my life. With a prescription of -7.50 diopters, I depended on them completely. Without my glasses, I could barely recognize anything around me.

Unfortunately, contact lenses were never a real alternative for me. Because of my severe nearsightedness, I never tolerated them well and often struggled with dry eyes. So, glasses were really my only option.

My Glasses Constantly Held Me Back

What many people underestimate is that with such severe myopia, glasses are not only expensive – they become something you are completely dependent on. The lenses have to be specially manufactured, making them quite costly. But even worse was the constant dependence.

One experience has stayed with me to this day. I was visiting my family when my glasses suddenly broke. I could hardly find my way around and had to rely on other people for help. That was the moment I truly realized how vulnerable you are when your vision is that poor.

There were also countless little things that bothered me every day. I was constantly pushing my glasses back up my nose or cleaning the lenses. During the summer they often felt uncomfortable, and when I went swimming, I could barely see my surroundings.

Eventually, I knew one thing for certain: I wanted my freedom back.

My Colleagues Took Away All My Fears

For my 23rd birthday, my team surprised me with a LASIK procedure. Even though I work in the operating room myself and know exactly how the treatment works, I was incredibly nervous.On the day of the procedure, I was really anxious. But that was also the moment I realized just how special our team is.

My colleagues stayed by my side the entire time. They kept me distracted, asked how I was feeling, talked to me, and even held my hand. From the very first moment, I felt completely cared for and supported.The treatment itself was much more relaxed than I had expected. The only unusual part was having to keep my eyes open. I didn’t experience any pain, and before I had even fully realized what was happening, it was already over.

I Could See Clearly the Very Next Day

Immediately after the treatment, my vision was still a little blurry and hazy. Even so, I could already tell that something had changed.The biggest moment came shortly afterward: I was suddenly able to read the clock on the wall – without my glasses.

I immediately burst into tears because I was completely overwhelmed with emotion.The next morning, my vision was already crystal clear. It’s a feeling that’s almost impossible to describe.

Every Day Without Glasses Feels Like a Little Gift

Since my treatment, I keep appreciating things that most people simply take for granted.

Waking up in the morning and being able to see everything immediately still amazes me. I can lie on my side on the sofa and watch TV without my glasses pressing against my face. After taking a shower, I can simply glance at the clock and instantly know what time it is. When I go swimming, I can finally see everything around me, and at work I no longer have to deal with glasses getting in the way.

It’s often these small everyday moments that remind me how much my quality of life has improved.

I Would Choose It Again Anytime

For me, laser eye surgery has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I would choose it again without hesitation.Whenever someone asks me about the procedure because they’re still unsure or afraid, I always tell them the same thing: Take a deep breath first. I had exactly the same concerns.

In the end, everything was much quicker and easier than I had imagined.And the feeling of waking up in the morning and simply being able to see is worth every single step of the journey.
